Thel Project aims to efficiently utilize surplus water from Guddu Barrage during flood seasons to address acute water scarcity in the Thar desert of Sindh Province. The will benefit approximately 264,150 acres, spanning Districts Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Sanghar, and Mirpurkhas up to Mithi, acting as a defense barrier parallel to the India-Pakistan border in Sindh Province. Major project components comprise remodeling and concrete lining of 55 km long Rainee Canal from RD – 07+176 to RD 81+433 up to Khenju head regulator complex, concrete lining of Thar Main Canal from RD 00+000 to its tail RD 1579+444, construction of hydraulic structure, road and railways bridges and 13 number natural storage reservoirs. 

Scope of Services

  • Comprehensive studies of discharge variability at intake from Guddu Barrage.  
  • Survey/Levelling including Topographic Survey & Cross-Sectional Survey of suitable alignments for Thar Canal and its distribution system including structures with establishment of Permanent Bench Marks at suitable distance. Rehabilitation measures of existing large depressions/ reservoirs for drinking water & agriculture purpose. 
  • Identification of command area to be irrigated.  
  • Surveys, geotechnical investigations, flood analysis and sedimentation studies.  
  • Development of feasibility studies, socio-economic studies, financial and economic analysis. 
  • Assessment of environmental & social aspects, development of environmental & social impact assessment (ESIA) with resettlement action plan (RAP) and its cost estimation. 
  • Preparation of tentative Project cost estimates and project implementation schedule.

  • Preparation of project layout covering all the required components including geology, hydrology, seismology surveys & investigations.  
  • Detailed Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) with Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) and its Cost Estimation.  
  • Financial and Economic Analysis.  
  • Preparation of Inception Report, Mid Term Report & Feasibility Study Report.
