This important rail link is planned to import coal from Afghanistan and transport through Kharlachi, Parachinar, Thal to Kohat. The study aims at selecting and designing of most suitable alignment for providing the proposed rail link for a design speed of 120 km/h. For this study, European Norms (EN) and UIC/AREA standards were followed for the areas where specifications and design parameters of Pakistan Railways either not available or need any revision or updation.  

Scope of Services

  • Estimation of the present and future freight and passenger railway transportation demand between Kharlachi & Peshawar as well as other capital cities of the country. 
  • Estimation of the land requirement and its cost, construction of track infrastructure, operation and maintenance costs of the project. 
  • To establish the nature and magnitude of the environmental and social impacts of the project and to recommend measures necessary to mitigate the adverse impacts and/or enhance the positive impacts. 
  • To establish a basis for the future detailed engineering design and construction bid documentation for the project. 
  • To determine the economic and financial viability of the project. 
  • Carryout Hydrological & Geotechnical studies.
