The primary objective of the Project is to expand economic activity between Pakistan and Afghanistan by improving regional connectivity and promoting private sector development along the Khyber Pass Corridor. The development objective is to ensure safety at higher speeds on modern road. In the long run, the project is expected to be financially viable, socially acceptable, environmentally manageable, gender-neutral and pro-poverty alleviation. The Southern Link Road is 42.53 km long, will connect Peshawar-Torkham Expressway to N-55 and N-5.

Scope of Services

  • Review the Project Inception Report.
  • Conduct a scoping assessment to identify potential environmental and social issues.
  • Review legislative and regulatory frameworks relevant to the project.
  • Identify and demarcate specific locations for all necessary complementary facilities for the project.
  • Precisely define the project’s geographical setting to guide subsequent ESIAA work.
  • Develop a comprehensive ESIA report detailing potential environmental impacts.
  • Systematically compare feasible alternatives to the proposed project site, technology, design, and operation.
  • Conduct detailed baseline studies and analyses.
  • Gather primary and secondary data on the physical, biological, and social environment.
  • Engage stakeholders to refine the project plan and design.
  • Assess both positive and negative impacts of the project on people and the environment.
  • Evaluate cumulative impacts of other development projects in the area.
  • Prepare a complete Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) with mitigation measures.
  • Supervise environmental management during construction activities.
  • Establish institutional arrangements for monitoring implementation of environmental and settlement plans.
